STEEP HILL & CASTLE SQUARE
Lincoln Castle and Steep Hill share a continuous history spanning Roman origins, Norman conquest, and medieval trade. William the Conqueror built Lincoln Castle in 1068 atop a ridge used since Roman times, while Steep Hill served as the ancient Roman route connecting the lower riverside settlement to the hilltop forum.
Getting up Steep Hill is a journey and there are alternative less steep routes available. During steampunk weekend mountain climbers even brave the climb.
