Virtual Gallery
Status: Paused
An interactive virtual gallery to showcase student work as a downloadable experience that goes beyond a showcase event into a digital recreation and archive of students’ work from across multiple courses.
The virtual gallery featured 3D scans of student work, photos and filmic content. Users could walk around the space, investigate the work to find out who made it, alongside any external links to portfolios, as well as speak to a virtual guide.
A version was made and shown at the Technician exhibition, whereby you could talk to a MetaHuman guide who could answer questions about the University of Lincoln, its courses and more.
There were a number of interactive elements, from a working floor keyboard to a cinema screen and a chatbot.
The project was paused as there was not enough student or academic buy-in to submit enough work to make the experience look full enough to be worth making freely available.
There are plans to reignite this project, as the space itself can look like anything and can work as a good collaborative design project.
Before the project was paused, there was a player customisation process ongoing to remove the default avatar alongside improving the system running requirements for VR device playback. ng
