CoM: Centre of Mass
The central balance point along which the characters weight and balance is centred, this impacts how the character would move as bodies try to correct themselves when moving to keep balanced so anything that offsets this point will create imbalance and require additional correction.
IK: Inverse Kinematics
Inverse kinematics is a mathematical process used to calculate the joint angles or positions needed to place an end-effector or a character's limb at a specific target position and orientation. The movement of one of these points will reflect the position of sequential points which can be impacted via the weighting and influence each ‘limb’ will have on the whole.
FK: Forward Kinematics
Forward Kinematics only takes into account the points following the joint selected where weight does not play a significant factor e.g. Point B follows point A but point A won’t follow point B.
Occlusion:
In regards to motion capture occlusion is whereby a trackable point is obscured / not visible to the capture tracking system typically due to one limb or object being out of view of the camera, this can lead to tracking drifts where by accuracy of performance can start to jitter.
Weight Dynamics: Mass drops the pelvis harder at heel strike, pushes the lean forward, slows cadence and loads the floor (amber arrows). The glowing dot represents the Centre of Mass, and the bar on the ground shows the Base of Support (green when balanced).
